We’ve become imprisoned by our own thoughts and beliefs, but the ability to find yourself, is the ability to FREE YOURSELF.
Buddha said, “In the end, these things matter most:”
-
How well did you love?
-
How fully did you live?
-
And how deeply did you let go?
You’ve been holding on so tightly all your life that you haven’t even noticed the thing you’ve accumulated that you need to let go. Your fears, your insecurities, toxic relationships, worrying about what other people think, the pain and trauma you’ve been carrying around with you all these years.
Instead of holding onto these things that bog you down, it is possible to toss them out, to learn from them, and grow from them.
It’s even possible to separate yourself from attachment to externals like: possessions, beauty, titles, money, status, situation.
It’s time for you to take control of these things instead of letting them control you.
You will never be able to successfully accomplish any of this if you don’t get to know your inner self.
-
When you know yourself, you understand what motivates you to resist those bad habits and develop good ones. You’ll have the insight to know which values and goals activate your willpower.
-
You will be happier when you can express who you are. Expressing your desires will make it more likely that you get what you want.
-
When your outside actions are in alignment with your inside feelings and values, you will experience less inner conflict.
-
When you know yourself, you are able to make better choices about everything, from small decisions like actually having an answer when someone asks, “What do you wanna eat?”— to big decisions like which partner you’ll spend your life with. You’ll have internal guidelines you can apply to solve life’s varied problems.
-
When you are grounded in your values and preferences, you are less likely to say “yes” when you want to say “no.”
-
Your awareness of your own weaknesses and struggles will help you empathize with others.
-
Being who you truly are helps you feel more alive and makes your experience of life richer, larger, and more exciting.
Now that I’ve convinced you that self-knowledge is the key that unlocks your prison cell, in the next blog we will talk about your cellmate…aka that voice inside of your head.
